The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Audu Amba has bagged the prestigious award of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Comrade Amba, who doubles as the Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, was presented with the award at the NUJ’s Press Freedom and Good Governance Awards on Saturday.
Comrade Amba was honours with the Good Governance Award (Educational Planning and Leadership) during the event organised by the NUJ.
The award acknowledges Amba’s sterling contributions to Nigeria’s educational sector through credible leadership and mobilizing Nigeria’s teachers for effective service delivery.
According to the National President of the NUJ, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, the award was in recognition of Comrade Amba’s track records of invaluable contributions towards the growth and development of teachers’ welfare.
The NUJ added that “Comrade Amba, is a colossus in Nigeria’s educational planning and administration space. His sterling performance as the National President of NUT and Deputy President of the NLC has brought confidence and dynamism to the two very important organisations that are very pivotal to the development of our great Nation, Nigeria. His inclination to protect teachers rights in Nigeria as well as negotiate better working conditions for them and other workers remains unparalleled..”
While receiving the award, Comrade Amba thanked the NUJ for finding him worthy of the Award. He commended Journalists for their invaluable role in upholding democracy, promoting transparency, and empowering individuals to make informed decisions.
He appeals to Nigerians to remember and honour all journalists who have paid the supreme price while hunting for news and information.
Among other notable recipients were Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rev. Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Governor of Benue State and Prof. Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State.
The ceremony was part of the activities to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day. It was chaired by Alhaji Mohammed Minister of Information and National Orientation.
