2024: PDP Unravels Plan by APC to Rig LG Elections in Kaduna State

Kaduna State Government officials are officially saddled with the responsibilities by Kaduna State Government to manipulate the outcome of the 19th October, 2024 Local Government election in Kaduna State including amending the above provision of Kaduna State Local Government Election law particularly as regards the venue of returning/or declaration of a winner of the election both in the wards level and the Local Government level.

The above officials are also planning to hijack the appointment of both the wards and local Government returning/ collation officers as against the provisions of the law shorting down the interested member of the public to apply for same.

This exposition was made yesterday in Kaduna at a press conference the party organised by its newly elected chairman, Hon. Edward Percy Masha.

In light of the upcoming Local Government election in Kaduna State scheduled for 19th October, 2024, the leadership and all the members of our great party in Kaduna state wish to make the following statements:

By the provision of Section 23 and 24 of the Local Government election law of Kaduna State it thus provided as follows:

These plans are all in contradiction of the just concluded Local Government Election amended law in Kaduna state as assented by His Excellency the Governor of Kaduna State on the 11th day of July, 2024 and same was gazetted on the 25th day of July, 2024.

The PDP called on Gov. Uba Sani l, security agencies and the public that the Constitutional task on them is to maintain law and order in the country and our dear State. And also to uphold their Constitutional responsibilities of ensuring a peaceful and violence – free election processes.

DONE IN KADUNA THIS TUESDAY, 8TH DAY OF OCTOBER.

Section 23

(1) Results of the election SHALL be announced by (CI)

The Presiding Officer at the Polling Unit

(b)

The Ward Returning Officer at the Ward

Collation Center

(C)

The Local Government Returning Officer at the Local Government Council Centre.

(2) The Returning Officer SHALL announced the result and declared the winner of the election at:

(a) Ward Collation Centre in the case of Councillor

Election.

(b) Local Government Collation Centre in the case of Chairman and vice SECTION 24: make provision clearly in respect of appointment and functions of other officers for the conduct of the Local Government Election in Kaduna state, it thus; provided as follows:

(1) The Commission SHALL for purpose of an election, under this law appoint and designate such officers as may be required provided that no person who is a member of a pollica party or who has openly expressed support for any, candidate shall be so appointed.

(2) The officers appointed under (1) of this section shall exercise such functions and duties as may be specified by the Commission in accordance with the provision of this law and SHALL not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority other than the Commission in performance of their functions.
