The Kaduna State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is deeply saddened by the Kaduna State government’s shocking refusal to fully implement the new minimum wage of seventy-two thousand naira. This is despite an agreement with organised labour following the national minimum wage review to seventy thousand naira by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
Reliable sources within the government and aggrieved workers have informed us that many workers in the state were either not paid the new minimum wage or did not receive the agreed-upon increment in the recently paid November 2024 salaries. This blatant disregard for workers’ welfare is not only cruel but also a stark reminder that the APC government is out of touch with the people of Kaduna State.
The PDP can not stand idly by while the Kaduna State Government disrespects its workers. We urge the Labour Unions to take immediate action to hold the government accountable until every worker receives their rightful dues. Furthermore, we demand that the salary review extends to employees of all 23 LGAs across the state, as anything less would be unjustifiable.
It is not a privilege, but a right, for workers to enjoy the new minimum wage. While the governor and his aides enjoy lavish salaries and allowances or embark on wasteful foreign and local trips, it is unacceptable that the majority of citizens suffer in poverty.
We assure the public of our unwavering commitment to collaborating with organised labour, civil society organisations, the mass media, and patriotic citizens to hold the Kaduna State government accountable for its actions, particularly regarding security, welfare, and effective governance.
