Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima revealed yesterday, December 29, 2024, that his friend, Mr. Rijo Shekari will contest the House of Representatives seat for the Zangon-Kataf/Jaba federal constituency in 2027.
The VP made the exposition while on a condolence visit to the palace of the late Chief of Kamuru-Ikulu, HRH Mal. Sidi Kukah, the Vice President addressed senior stakeholders from the senatorial zone. He highlighted infrastructure deficit and insecurity as major challenges facing the zone.
The VP assured the community that the current administration is committed to establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, both of which the zone’s Senator, Sunday Marshall Katung has sponsored bills at the National Assembly. “These institutions will have a direct impact on the zone,” he said.
In a lighthearted moment, the VP jokingly encouraged the senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Katung, to join the APC. He also hinted at Mr. Shekari’s candidacy for the coveted Zangon-Kataf and Jaba Federal Constituency seat in 2027, urging him to “collaborate with the senator for the progress of the senatorial zone”.
The Vice President, who was accompanied by Mr. Rijo Shekari was received by Senator Katung, brother of the deceased and a great friend of the Vice President, Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah, Chairman of Zangon Kataf LGA, Engr. Bege Joseph Gaiya and other senior stakeholders from the zone.
You will recall that Mr. Shekari was the SDP candidate for the Kaduna South Senatorial District seat in the 2019 general elections and has been consistently involved in community development initiatives in the zone over the last couple of years.
