A socio-political group, the Southern Kaduna People’s Alliance for Good Governance, has raised the alarm over what it described as attempts by a fringe group to sow discord among key political leaders working for the development of Southern Kaduna.

At a press conference held on Monday 2nd June, 2025, the group condemned in strong terms the activities of the Southern Kaduna Youth Stakeholders Forum, led by one Engr. Seth Bakut, accusing it of promoting division and misrepresenting the views of the region’s youth.

According to the Convener, Comrade Edward John Auta, and Co-convener, Comrade Ezekiel Shamaki, the recent actions by the group—including a press conference allegedly aimed at pitching Senator Sunday Marshall Katung against Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—are “mischievous, baseless, and capable of undermining the collective progress of the region.”

The controversy revolves around the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan—two landmark federal projects recently approved for the region. The Alliance lauded the collaborative efforts between Senator Katung and the APC-led governments at the state and federal levels in making these institutions a reality.

“We find it hard to believe that any genuine Southern Kaduna youth would be jealous of the senator’s effective collaboration with the federal and state governments—collaboration that is driving tangible development in our zone,” the group said.

They urged President Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and Senator Katung not to be distracted by what they termed “desperate politicians using impostor groups to cause unnecessary tension.” Instead, they called on all leaders to remain focused on ensuring the full take-off and sustainable funding of the two newly established institutions.

The group also called on Mr. Seth Bakut and his supporters to desist from actions capable of tarnishing the region’s image and undermining unity among its political leadership.

“Democracy thrives when leaders, regardless of party affiliations, work together for the common good. The Katung-Uba-Tinubu collaboration is an example worth emulating,” the Alliance added.

In their statement, the group commended Senator Katung for sponsoring the two bills that laid the legal foundation for FUASK and FMC Kafanchan and for lobbying effectively to ensure federal endorsement and support.

They extended their gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Uba Sani, and the President for backing the projects, and acknowledged the efforts of General Christopher Musa, a Southern Kaduna indigene, and the security apparatus in improving security in the region.

However, the Alliance noted that security challenges persist, especially with ongoing banditry and kidnappings in parts of Southern Kaduna. They called for sustained efforts to root out insecurity and restore peace fully.

Additionally, the group spotlighted the deteriorating condition of the Kagoro-Manchok-Jos Federal Highway, describing it as a key economic and transport corridor that requires urgent federal intervention. They appealed to Senator Katung to champion the cause as he has done with other developmental issues.

“May God bless all our leaders and grant them the wisdom and unity to continue building a better Southern Kaduna,” the statement concluded.
