The media office of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung has strongly refuted a recent headline published by Premium Times, describing it as “sensational, misleading, and unfounded.”

The article in question, dated June 10, 2025, carried the headline: “EXCLUSIVE: Wife of Nigerian Senator in Money Laundering Mess in UK”. According to Senator Katung’s media adviser, Midat Joseph, the headline is not only inaccurate but also contradicts the content of the report itself.

“In one paragraph, Premium Times quotes the presiding judge as saying: ‘However, the Judge shielded Mrs Katung from having any knowledge of Mr. Hussain’s criminal activities… I therefore make it crystal clear that I do not find that she was cognisant of what Mr. Hussain was up to,'” Joseph stated. “This directly contradicts the headline’s implication of her involvement in money laundering.”

The statement emphasized that the matter in question arose from a civil proceeding, not a criminal trial, and that money laundering was not mentioned at any point in the judgment.

Furthermore, Senator Katung’s office clarified that the judgment is currently under appeal, cautioning the public and media against drawing premature conclusions.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung and his wife, Abigail Katung, have always conducted their affairs lawfully and transparently,” the statement said, adding that the Senator will pursue legal action to address the “defamatory narrative.”

The media office urged the public to disregard what it described as “sensationalism” by online platforms and to await the outcome of the appeal process.
