The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Maximum Impact Team has issued a strong statement condemning what it described as a “coordinated smear campaign” against Distinguished Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District.
In a press release signed by the group’s General Overseer on Monday, the PDP team accused an anonymous group operating under the name “Southern Kaduna Progressive Youth Network” of spearheading a campaign of misinformation and character assassination against the Senator and his family.
“This calculated attempt to distort facts and mislead the public is cowardly, disgraceful, and utterly reprehensible,” the statement read. “Senator Katung remains a beacon of progressive leadership and democratic representation in Southern Kaduna.”
The group highlighted Senator Katung’s legislative achievements in the Senate since his election in 2023, noting that he has sponsored people-focused bills and advanced motions that address core issues affecting the region. It emphasized his popularity across the eight local government areas of Southern Kaduna, cutting across ethnic, religious, and political boundaries.
“Unlike others who thrive on rhetoric and empty showmanship, Senator Katung leads with humility and focus. His result-oriented leadership continues to earn him widespread admiration,” the PDP Maximum Impact Team said.
They described the smear campaign as a politically motivated attack driven by envy and desperation, vowing to resist any attempt to distract the Senator from delivering on his mandate. The group also stated its intent to work with authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the false claims.
“We are committed to defending truth, justice, and the dignity of our representative. When the time for politics comes, we will meet our opponents at the polls—with the people as our judges,” the statement added.
The PDP team urged the people of Southern Kaduna and the general public to disregard the attacks and continue to support Senator Katung in his efforts to bring development to the region.
