A concerned Southern Kaduna man and sympathiser to Senator Sunday Marshall Katung has voiced deep anguish over the circulation of a fake and malicious handbill making rounds on Facebook. The false publication, described as a smear campaign, has been condemned as a gross act of political sabotage aimed at undermining the Senator’s reputation and contributions.
In a statement made public on Tuesday, Barr. Shai J. Maisamari—who was alerted to the material by a former classmate in Australia—expressed profound disappointment and emotional distress over the development, stating, “My heart is bleeding profusely.”
The statement went on to highlight Senator Katung’s achievements and ongoing efforts on behalf of his constituents in Southern Kaduna, noting that:
- Senator Katung has maintained an outstanding tenure in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
- He has provided diligent and impactful representation for the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, earning widespread commendation;
- He has demonstrated rare courage by visiting remote, often insecure communities and consistently advocating for his people on the floor of the National Assembly;
- He has invested significant time, energy, and resources in attracting federal presence and projects to Southern Kaduna;
- He has offered financial assistance to students, the sick, and vulnerable persons across the district—even to individuals he has never personally met.
Describing the anonymous attack as both “ill-advised” and “idiotic,” the supporter stressed that opposition must be rooted in reason, not lies and recklessness.
“This betrayal is painful. Political dissent is allowed, but it must be done thoughtfully, not through character assassination and falsehoods,” the statement concluded.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Katung’s media team had yet to issue an official response. However, allies and community members continue to rally behind him, describing the lawmaker as one of Southern Kaduna’s most accessible and responsive political figures.
