The youth wing of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has strongly condemned recent moves by a group identified as the Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network, which held a press conference on June 16 announcing plans to initiate a recall process against Senator Sunday Marshall Katung and calling for an EFCC investigation into his activities.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the SOKAPU National Youth Wing dismissed the group’s actions as divisive, ill-intentioned, and unrepresentative of the broader aspirations of Southern Kaduna youths.

“As the umbrella body for Southern Kaduna youths, we reject this ‘Pull Him Down’ (PHD) culture. It is not only dangerous and counterproductive but also undermines the unity and development we strive for,” the statement read.

Signed by Comrade Solomon Simon (National Coordinator), Comrade Aruwa Alhassan (Secretary General), and Comrade Isah Emmanuel Anjadick (National Public Relations Officer), the youth wing reaffirmed its full support for Senator Katung and praised his performance since assuming office.

Highlighting key achievements, the group cited Senator Katung’s role in attracting federal government interventions, including:

  • A response motion for victims of the 2023 diphtheria outbreak
  • A ₦1.6 billion bailout package for ginger farmers in 2024
  • Legislative sponsorships for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan; and a Technology Incubation Centre in Kafanchan
  • Community development efforts such as fertilizer distribution, scholarships, hospital renovations, science laboratory construction, and provision of over 30 boreholes, including solar-powered ones

SOKAPU Youth Wing emphasized that their loyalty lies with the Southern Kaduna region, not political factions, and called on all youths to resist being used for smear campaigns or political distractions.

“We caution against the misuse of youth platforms for false alarms and political vendettas. Southern Kaduna’s dignity should not be sacrificed for propaganda,” the group stated, urging unity, innovation, and responsibility among the youth.
