The Kaduna State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing warning strike by staff unions in several state-owned tertiary institutions, describing it as a sign of the near-collapse of the education sector under the current administration.
In a press statement signed by the State Chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the PDP sympathized with the lecturers and students of institutions affected by the industrial action, including Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna State College of Education, Kaduna State College of Nursing, and Shehu Idris College of Health Technology.
The party warned that the strike, which commenced yesterday, could jeopardize the academic future of thousands of students, delay graduations, and deepen the trauma experienced by students and staff alike.
“This situation is a wake-up call for the APC-led government under Governor Uba Sani to take urgent action,” the statement read. “With the substantial financial allocations received by the state in the past two years, the current level of neglect in the education sector is unjustifiable.”
The PDP declared its solidarity with the striking unions and called on the government to immediately open meaningful dialogue with the affected institutions’ staff to address their grievances and avert further disruption.
“Education is a fundamental right, and it is the duty of any responsible government to provide a conducive environment for both teaching and learning,” Masha stated.
The party also reassured students and lecturers of its continued advocacy for a responsive and people-oriented administration. It urged citizens to remain patient and keep faith in the PDP’s promise of restoring quality governance through democratic change.
“We remain committed to ensuring that Kaduna State does not continue on this path of decay and mismanagement. A better future is possible through the ballot,” the statement concluded.
