Health professionals in Southern Kaduna have strongly condemned a recent recall campaign targeting Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, describing the move as “politically motivated” and “grossly misguided.”

The campaign, reportedly championed by a group known as the Southern Kaduna Progressive Youth Network, has drawn criticism from across the senatorial district. The group’s claims, which hinge on allegations published by Premium Times—have been widely discredited as a smear effort orchestrated by political opponents.

In a statement signed by Dr. Gad Zanang Ezekiel, convener of the concerned health professionals, the group emphasized Senator Katung’s numerous contributions to the region’s development, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and employment.

“Certain individuals have chosen to pursue a campaign of falsehoods against a senator whose leadership has consistently exemplified dignity, progress, and inclusivity,” the statement read.

The group went on to highlight key achievements by Senator Katung, including:

The establishment of major federal institutions such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, and a proposed Institute for Incubation Technology along Madakiya Road.
The creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boosting human capital in healthcare and research.
Provision of scholarships to hundreds of Southern Kaduna students studying disciplines like Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Law, and Nursing.
Renovation and construction of healthcare facilities throughout the senatorial district.
Swift intervention during the recent diphtheria outbreak, including donations of medical supplies and financial support.
Sponsorship of medical bills for underprivileged residents within and outside the district.
Facilitation of employment opportunities in federal and state institutions.
According to Dr. Ezekiel, these accomplishments clearly demonstrate Senator Katung’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

“These are not the actions of a man deserving of a recall—they are the marks of a true representative and servant leader,” he added.

The health professionals concluded the statement by disassociating themselves from the recall effort and instead offering a full vote of confidence in the senator, endorsing his bid for a second term in office.

“We urge the people of Southern Kaduna to see through this orchestrated distraction and rally behind a man who has delivered real results.”

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung was elected to represent Kaduna South Senatorial District and has been widely acknowledged for his inclusive leadership style and legislative accomplishments.
