The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly distanced itself from the reported coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that it is not part of any such arrangement.

The declaration was made on Sunday, July 6, 2025, during an expanded caucus meeting of the party held in Kaduna. Party leaders, including prominent stakeholders and elected officials, were in attendance to discuss internal challenges, upcoming elections, and the future direction of the PDP in the state.

Speaking at the meeting, former governor of Kaduna State and Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees(BoT), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, dismissed insinuations that the party is losing ground in the state. He said:
“No one will look at the caliber of people gathered in this hall and say that PDP is dead in Kaduna. However, we must work sincerely to achieve our collective aspirations.”

Makarfi also clarified that any decision regarding coalition or merger may be made after the convention by the new party executives, expected in four months.
“If we are to go into any coalition, it must be through the new party officials that emerged after the convention, not by individuals acting unilaterally,” he stressed.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Edward Percy Masha, outlined the purpose of the meeting, noting that it was convened to address party challenges, strategize for the future, and mobilize support for the upcoming by-elections in the state.
“The timetable for the by-elections is out. We must unite and work closely with all our candidates to ensure victory at the polls,” he said.

In a show of solidarity, Senator Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha, representing Kaduna North Senatorial District, assured party leaders that all three PDP senators from the state are fully in support of the party’s ongoing efforts and direction.

Also speaking at the meeting, former House of Representatives member and two-time PDP governorship candidate in Kaduna (2019 and 2023), Rt. Hon. Isa Ashiru Kudan, reaffirmed the party’s unity in the region.
“At the North West PDP meeting, we unanimously agreed to remain within the PDP and strengthen the party from within,” he affirmed.
