The Southern Kaduna Trailblazing Women Association (SOKATWA) has strongly condemned what it described as a campaign of calumny against Hon. Mrs. Esther Ashevili Dawaki, a candidate in today’s by-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency seat.
In a statement signed by its President, Mrs. Belinda Augustine, the group expressed concern over “deliberate attempts, particularly by some men of repute, to discredit a female candidate through malicious propaganda.”

The association said Hon. Dawaki has shown energy, commitment, and dedication in serving her people, and described the circulation of her private images as a political tool as “unacceptable and unbecoming.”
“Every individual has a right to a private life, and such actions are a direct affront to the dignity of women in politics,” the statement read.
SOKATWA clarified that its position was not an endorsement of any political party in the by-election but a defense of the rights and dignity of women. The group called on male politicians to respect women in the political arena and focus campaigns on issues and competence rather than character attacks.
The statement further encouraged women across party lines to remain resolute in participating in politics despite intimidation or gender-based smear tactics.
“SOKATWA stands firmly behind every woman in politics. We urge them not to be deterred by such attacks,” the association declared.
