The Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance has commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for his steadfast commitment to ending banditry and terrorism in Northern Nigeria.

The group particularly welcomed the CDS’s directive to security forces to neutralize terrorists and their collaborators without waiting for clearance from Abuja, describing it as a bold step toward restoring peace in troubled areas.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, the group, however, expressed deep concern over the detention and arraignment of Captain M. Abubakar, popularly known as Singham, in connection with the killing of a suspected terrorist informant identified as Dangwari at Udawa along the Birnin-Gwari–Kaduna highway.

The Vanguard argued that credible testimonies from the District Head and Imam of Udawa had confirmed Dangwari’s alleged ties with terrorist groups, making Captain Abubakar’s actions consistent with his mandate as a frontline officer.

“Captain Abubakar, who distinguished himself by liberating Udawa, Kuriga, and Birnin-Gwari from the grip of terrorists, is now facing prosecution for carrying out the very mandate given to our security forces. This unfortunate situation risks dampening the morale of our gallant officers and men who continue to make immense sacrifices to secure our nation,” the statement read.

The group urged General Musa to urgently review the matter to ensure justice is served, warning against actions that could undermine the morale and commitment of security personnel working in high-risk areas.
