Residents of Kaduna South are experiencing power outages following the collapse of a transmission tower belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The incident occurred on Thursday, September 18, in Rigasa Community, after severe downpour and windstorm.

According to TCN, the collapse of Tower No. 7 disrupted the transmission of bulk electricity to several Kaduna Electric distribution load centres, cutting supply to parts of Southern Kaduna. Upon inspection, TCN engineers discovered that vandals had carted away vital components of the structure, making it vulnerable to collapse.

“The incident primarily affected power supply to parts of Kaduna South,” TCN explained, noting that it had directed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to link its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder to restore supply to customers in the affected areas.

However, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwuane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain unaffected and continue to enjoy stable power supply.

TCN officials confirmed that engineers are already on site, dismantling the collapsed tower and preparing for the re-erection of a new one.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused customers in Southern Kaduna,” said Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs. “We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work round the clock to restore power.”

The company assured residents that every effort is being made to minimize the duration of the outage.
