The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) Youth Wing has called on politicians and stakeholders in the region to focus on fostering unity and development rather than engaging in bitter political rivalries and name-calling.
In a statement signed by its National Youth Wing Coordinator, Comrade Solomon Simon, SOKAPU appealed to the people of Southern Kaduna to rise above partisan conflicts and channel their energies toward attracting meaningful development to the area.
“We wish to add our voice to the ongoing political debates in our region, particularly the exchanges between political parties over the uncertain political future of some of our federal lawmakers,” the statement read.
According to the group, under the leadership of Comrade Samuel Tabara, SOKAPU remains apolitical, with its primary focus being the defense and promotion of the collective interests of the Southern Kaduna people.
“SOKAPU will never compromise its core values. We urge politicians to sheathe their swords and put the region’s interest above personal or partisan considerations. Politics should not become an altar upon which relationships, unity, or progress are sacrificed,” Simon emphasized.
The Youth Wing maintained that political parties are merely vehicles for accessing power and that what matters most is how that power is used to improve people’s lives. It cautioned against divisive rhetoric and unnecessary rivalry over individual political choices, especially in light of ongoing rumours about defections.
“The ongoing realignments should unite us, not divide us. Our block votes in successive elections have earned us respect and political capital. If political realignment will help reenact this feat, so be it. In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests,” the statement noted.
SOKAPU urged all stakeholders to de-emphasize political rivalry and make development the central pursuit of all political engagements in Southern Kaduna.
