A coalition of political support groups that formed part of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung’s campaign structure in the 2023 elections has called on the lawmaker representing Kaduna South Senatorial District and his counterpart, representing the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dan Amos to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The coalition, led by Surveyor Samson Maikano, made the appeal during a meeting with the senator and member of house of representatives in Zonkwa, where they presented a memorandum of understanding (MoU) urging him to “align with the centre for access to more dividends of democracy.”

Speaking after the meeting, Maikano explained that their proposal was driven by a sense of complete satisfaction with the two lawmakers’ performance since coming on board, as well as the desire to accelerate development in Southern Kaduna through stronger political synergy with the federal government.

“We just delivered our MoU to the senator and house member, urging them to join the ruling APC for more access to the centre. They can easily attract development and speedy growth to our region. We have been left behind and can not afford to continue losing because of differences in political alignment,” he said.

He further argued that previous periods of political alignment between Southern Kaduna and the party at the centre had yielded significant gains for the region.

“When our elites aligned with the PDP at the federal, state, and local government levels, it brought massive qualitative and quantitative developments to our region. We have drawn inspiration from that example in making this call,” Maikano added.

The coalition leader also acknowledged the magnanimity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving major federal appointments and projects in the region—the University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, secondary school in Jagindi, and several youth-centred empowerment initiatives—despite Southern Kaduna’s limited support for the APC in 2023.

“These are clear signs that if we give President Tinubu bloc votes in 2027, we will have more to show for it,” Maikano stated.

He concluded that, regardless of whether Senator Katung accepts their proposal or not, the coalition remains fully supportive of his leadership, describing him as “a credible and passionate representative of the good people of Southern Kaduna.”
