The Southern Kaduna Renaissance Front (SKRF) has cautioned against what it described as the “divisive and self-serving” use of the Northern Christians identity for political gain, following a recent publication by Privilege Magazine, Abuja titled “Northern Christians Mobilize for Tinubu, Demand Senator Danjuma Laah’s Return to the Senate.”
In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Pastor Jerome Akyasa Waziri, the group expressed deep concern over the report, warning those behind it to desist from exploiting the revered identity of Northern Christians or invoking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s name to promote narrow political ambitions.
The SKRF questioned the credibility and structure of the so-called Northern Christians Network for Sustainable Development (NCN-SD), describing its call for Senator Danjuma Laah’s return to the Senate as “misguided, ill-timed, and not reflective of the aspirations of Northern Christians, especially those in Kaduna South Senatorial District.”
According to the statement, Southern Kaduna is currently enjoying a “rare season of cooperation and progress” driven by the collaboration between Governor Uba Sani and Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, as well as Senator Katung’s cordial relationship with President Tinubu.
The group highlighted several ongoing federal projects as evidence of this partnership, including the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, and the Kafanchan, Madakiya–Madauchi Road, among others across Kauru and other local government areas.
“These initiatives mark a decisive turning point in Southern Kaduna’s long quest for inclusive development and national relevance,” the statement read. “It would therefore be politically reckless and morally shortsighted for anyone to contemplate replacing Senator Katung in 2027, thereby derailing a winning partnership that is delivering tangible results under the Tinubu administration.”
The SKRF recalled that during its Young Persons Political Conference held on September 17, 2025, in Kaduna—attended by youth leaders and delegates across the senatorial district, participants unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Senator Katung and encouraged strategic realignment with the centre to sustain peace and development in the region.
While acknowledging the contributions of past leaders such as Senator Danjuma Laah, the group condemned any attempt to “weaponize religion or appropriate the Northern Christian identity” for political revival, warning that such actions undermine the unity and progress Southern Kaduna has worked hard to achieve.
The SKRF reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and good governance and urged Christians and the wider Southern Kaduna community to remain vigilant against pseudo-religious organizations claiming to speak for them.
It also advised the public to treat politically motivated publications with caution, especially those aimed at distracting from the “genuine progress, peace, and prosperity currently unfolding in the senatorial zone.”
