A cross-section of youths from the Kaduna South Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, describing recent moves to initiate a recall process against him as a distraction fueled by ulterior motives.

In an open letter made public on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and signed by one J.F. Dabo on behalf of the youth constituency, the group expressed unwavering confidence in Senator Katung’s leadership, commending his developmental efforts across the region.

“Despite being a first-term senator, you have brought significant dividends of democracy to our region, showcasing your dedication and effectiveness,” the letter stated. “I am but one of the youths of Kaduna South, but I write on behalf of the majority who see and feel your impact.”

The statement was a direct response to a press briefing by a group identified as the “Southern Kaduna Progressives Youths,” which recently announced its intention to initiate a recall process against the senator. However, the youth-led letter criticized the group’s actions as baseless and politically motivated.

“We strongly believe this move is misguided and driven by ulterior motives, rather than genuine concern for the district’s well-being,” the letter noted. “Their claims deliberately overlook the good work you have accomplished.”

Reaffirming their support, the youths urged Senator Katung not to be discouraged or distracted by what they called “noise from politically sponsored actors,” urging him to stay the course and continue his legislative and developmental work for the district.

“Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we believe you deserve the opportunity to continue serving without unnecessary distractions. Please remain focused on your work — we stand firmly behind you,” the letter concluded.

Senator Katung, who represents Kaduna South at the National Assembly, has been widely praised for championing key projects in the region, including the newly approved Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) in Kachia — the first major federal institution in Southern Kaduna.

The letter comes as growing support continues to rally around the senator amid what many believe are orchestrated attempts to undermine his popularity ahead of future political contests.
