Amidst recent calls for a recall of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung by a group identifying itself as the “Southern Kaduna Progressives Youths,” a broad section of Kaduna South youths have rallied behind the lawmaker, expressing full confidence in his leadership and rejecting what they describe as “misguided distractions.”

In an open letter dated Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and signed by J.F. Dabo on behalf of Active Citizens, it lauded Senator Katung’s developmental strides, describing his tenure as impactful despite being a first-time senator.

“We wish to express our utmost confidence in your leadership and the remarkable work you have done for Southern Kaduna. Despite being a first-term senator, you have brought significant dividends of democracy to our region,” the letter read in part.

The youths condemned the purported recall move, questioning the credibility and motives of those behind it. According to the letter, “We strongly believe this move is misguided and driven by ulterior motives, rather than a genuine concern for the district’s well-being.”

They further accused the recall proponents of turning a blind eye to the achievements of Senator Katung, describing the action as a calculated attempt to derail ongoing development efforts in the zone.

“We urge you not to let this group deter you from continuing to serve our district with the same passion and commitment,” the statement urged, assuring the senator of continued grassroots support.

Senator Katung, who represents the people of Kaduna South in the National Assembly, has recently been at the forefront of several developmental initiatives, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) in Kachia — a landmark project seen as the first substantial federal presence in the zone.

As tensions rise over the attempted recall, this latest show of solidarity adds to growing voices defending the senator’s record and dismissing the move as politically motivated.
