Six students of Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai,  yesterday,  Tuesday 25th June, 2024 drowned to death in Mbang River in Ribang community of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a press statement issued by Sen. Sunday Marshall Katung representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone, the Federal Lawmaker Sympathises with the families of the deceased and called on Gov. Uba Sani to please come to the aid of the people of Ribang and build a bridge across the river, which will connect many adjoining communities to prevent commuters from  continuous drowning in the River.
The press statement reads:
It is disheartening that the six children were students of Government Secondary School, Fadan Chawai who were returning from writing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when they drowned in the same Mbang River they had earlier crossed.
It is genuinely sorrowful that these six students tenaciously held on to their dream of expanding themselves through acquiring an education despite the environmental challenges confronting them, only to drown while on that quest.
I also learned that the absence of a bridge over the Mbang River has been a constant source of worry for the community, especially during the rainy season. While this is most unfortunate, the death of these six students should be the motivation for all stakeholders to rally round the community and provide a bridge for them. Consequently, I strongly appeal to my governor, his Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, to come to the aid of the Ribang Community by providing a bridge for them over the Mbang River.  This would definitely help to avoid future disasters.
I sincerely extend my deepest sympathy to the parents of the six students who must be going through unimaginable pain now. I sympathise with the Ribang community and Kauru Local Government in general. I share your grief and the void the incident has created, and I urge you to take solace in the fact that efforts would be made to ensure that such a disaster doesn’t occur again.
