The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the August 16, 2025 bye-elections held in Basawa, Zaria Kewaye, and Chikun/Kajuru State and Federal Constituencies.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the party expressed appreciation to voters who turned out to support the PDP despite what it described as a climate of intimidation and irregularities. “Your unwavering commitment and support will never be taken for granted,” the statement read.

The PDP also commended its stakeholders for their roles before, during, and after the polls, noting that their dedication had further strengthened the party and deepened the loyalty of its supporters across the state.

However, the party strongly condemned what it called the “desperation of the failed Uba Sani-led government,” accusing it of deploying “gestapo and commando tactics” to tilt the process in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP alleged that its candidate for Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency and members of his campaign committee were abducted, while funds meant for logistics and agents’ allowances were seized. It further claimed that massive vote buying was carried out in full public view.

Rejecting the outcome of the elections in all three constituencies, the PDP said it would consult with its candidates, stakeholders, and legal team to determine its next course of action.

The party also linked the “unprecedented low voter turnout” to a growing lack of confidence in the electoral process, which it said was worsened by Governor Uba Sani’s failure to conduct the 2024 local government elections in the state.

“If this undemocratic trend continues, the problem of voter apathy will only worsen and reach a dangerous peak by 2027,” the PDP warned, while urging the people of Kaduna State to continue supporting the party as it undertakes reforms to strengthen its structures and ensure better representation.
