Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has been described as a “Hero of Democracy and a True Champion of Our People” following his recent petition filed against the Governor of Kaduna State at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The petition has sparked widespread attention and commendation from constituents and political observers alike.
In a public letter addressed to the Senator, Edward John Auta Pama—a respected historian and opposition stalwart, praised Senator Usman for his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and the welfare of the people of Kaduna State.
“Your recent petition against the Governor of Kaduna State is a testament to your unwavering commitment to democracy and the welfare of our people,” Auta wrote. “You’ve consistently proven yourself worthy in discharging your legislative mandate, contributing meaningfully to law-making, oversight, and impactful constituency projects across education, healthcare, job creation, youth empowerment, and women’s development.”
Auta went on to applaud the Senator’s courage in challenging what he called “tyranny” and holding a leader accountable who, he claims, once portrayed himself as a pro-democracy advocate but has now abandoned those ideals.
“We pray that your petition to the ICC receives expedited consideration,” the letter continues, “and we look forward to your continued leadership in the fight to hold the Kaduna State government accountable for its many sins against democracy and good governance.”
Auta reassured Senator Usman of the strong support he enjoys from his constituents: “Dear Senator, know that our people appreciate and admire you, and those who support you far outnumber those who are against you.”
The development is likely to intensify the political discourse in Kaduna as the 2027 election cycle approaches, with observers watching closely how the petition and the response from international bodies unfold.
