The Chairman, House Committee on House Services, and member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Daniel Amos, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Announcing his defection at Wednesday’s plenary of the House of Representatives, Amos described the move as a “conscious step” taken after wide consultation with his constituents. He said the decision reflects his “renewed and unbiased commitment to serving the good people of Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency with greater dedication, openness, and focus on results.”

The lawmaker said his decision to join the ruling APC was motivated by the need to align with the policies and developmental agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as well as the peace and development efforts of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

“After careful consultation with my constituents, I have decided to align with the policies of the Tinubu-led APC government to bring further development to my constituency and to support Governor Uba Sani’s efforts in promoting peace and progress in Kaduna State,” Amos stated.

He, however, noted that his exit from the PDP was a difficult but necessary step, lamenting that the party has become “weighed down by its own antics” and has failed to resolve deep-seated contradictions that have weakened its ability to serve the people effectively.

In a letter read on the floor by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, Amos said: “It was a hard decision, especially considering that the PDP gave me the platform to represent my people after years of dedicated service. Unfortunately, the party has regressed and is no longer capable of meeting the aspirations of Nigerians.”

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his “exemplary leadership, inclusiveness, and statesmanship” and thanked his colleagues across party lines for their support and camaraderie.

Amos pledged to continue working with his colleagues in the Green Chamber to advance good governance and ensure a more prosperous, inclusive, and secure Nigeria.

His defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments in Kaduna State, where several lawmakers are positioning themselves closer to the ruling party at the centre to enhance collaboration and attract development to their constituencies.
