Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, has called on residents of the district and Nigerians at large to use the concurrent observance of Ramadan and the Lenten season to reflect, promote unity and pray for lasting peace and development.
In a statement on Tuesday to mark the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent, Katung extended warm greetings to Muslims and Christians, describing the period as a sacred time for spiritual renewal, self-discipline and devotion to God.
The senator noted that Ramadan offers an opportunity for compassion, humility and service to humanity, urging Muslims to strengthen family and community bonds, show kindness to the less privileged and share the blessings of the season with others.
He also congratulated Christians as they begin the 40-day Lenten journey of fasting, prayer and repentance, which he said calls for reflection, sacrifice and recommitment to the virtues of love, humility and service to humanity.
Katung described the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent this year as a “divine alignment” that underscores the shared values of both faiths, including charity, self-discipline and devotion to God.
According to him, the overlapping seasons provide a unique opportunity to deepen interfaith harmony, promote mutual understanding and reinforce the bonds of brotherhood among the people of Kaduna State.
He urged residents of Kaduna South Senatorial District to use the period to pray for peace, security and development in their communities, Kaduna State and the country as a whole.
The senator expressed hope that the season of fasting and prayer would purify hearts, strengthen faith and bring peace and blessings to homes across the district and beyond.
