The groundbreaking ceremony marks the commencement of the reconstruction of the vital bridge linking Mariri, Geshere, Binawa and other neighbouring communities in the area.

The bridge, initially constructed during the administration of former Governor Namadi Sambo, collapsed about 20 years ago, creating serious challenges for communal activities, transportation and the movement of agricultural produce, goods and services.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Katung, who facilitated the reconstruction project, expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for his prompt response to the concerns of the affected communities.

He said he had approached the governor with a request for the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge to ease movement and improve the socioeconomic activities of residents.

According to him, Governor Uba Sani demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development by immediately approving the project and directing the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) to proceed with the intervention.

Katung described the governor as a listening leader who remains committed to ensuring that development reaches communities across Kaduna State.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director of KADRA, Dr. Abdullahi Baba Ahmad, said the reconstruction represented a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and the living conditions of residents.

He explained that the bridge would facilitate the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and essential services, while improving access to schools, healthcare facilities and markets.

Baba Ahmad further noted that the project would support local businesses, strengthen community relationships and enhance economic activities across the Mariri-Geshere axis.

He assured the people that KADRA would ensure the project was executed in accordance with required engineering standards, with emphasis on quality, durability and timely completion.

The District Head of Kumana, Mr. Samaila Yanaba, who spoke on behalf of the communities, expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani and Senator Katung for the intervention.
