The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has called for renewed commitment in the fight against insurgency following the killing of a senior military officer, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimoh, by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

Speaking on the development, General Musa said the most meaningful way to honour the fallen officer and other slain personnel is to intensify efforts to achieve lasting peace and security across the country.

“The best way to honour Gen. Braimoh and other fallen heroes is to finish the task they gave their lives for,” he stated.

Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimoh, who served as Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, was killed on April 9, 2026, during an attack by insurgents on his base in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. Reports indicate that the terrorists overran the military formation, and the senior officer lost his life when his armoured vehicle reportedly failed to start during an attempt to reposition amid the assault.

The late General was subsequently buried in Maiduguri alongside other fallen soldiers in April 2026.

The Defence Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing military operations against insurgent groups in the North-East, where security forces continue to confront Boko Haram and its splinter factions. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism and ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen heroes are not in vain.
