ABU Law Students Honour Jerry Adams as ‘Man of the Environment’
The Energy and Environmental Law Club of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has honoured the former Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani’s nominated Deputy Governor, Jerry Adams, with the distinguished title of “Man of the Environment.”
Adams received the honour when the leadership of the club, led by Mr Hamzat Ashir, paid him a strategic engagement visit on September 3, 2026.
The delegation included some of the Faculty of Law’s outstanding students, among them Farida Muazu Sani from Zamfara State, the 2026 Overall Best Graduating Law Student, alongside other members of the graduating class.
The students disclosed that the 2026 graduating class produced four First-Class Law graduates, including two indigenes of Kaduna State — Shimanh Daniel Sabo and Obadiah Rosemary Mamman.
The club commended Adams for his commitment to environmental sustainability, community development and human capital empowerment, particularly through initiatives such as the ECOCARE Campus Initiative, which provides strategic waste bins to promote proper waste management.
They also acknowledged his support for grassroots afforestation and tree-planting campaigns aimed at promoting environmental conservation.
In appreciation of the students’ academic achievements, Adams pledged to provide mentorship and support packages for the four First-Class graduates as they prepare to commence Law School in February.
He further promised a more substantial support package for the two First-Class graduates from Kaduna State.
Adams said investment in young people and intellectual capital remained critical to the development of society.
“I believe strongly that intellectual capital is one of our greatest assets as a society. When we invest in young minds, we are investing in the future of our communities and our nation.”
He described the conferment of the “Man of the Environment” title, alongside a special award for excellence, as an honour he received with humility and a renewed sense of responsibility.
Adams thanked the Energy and Environmental Law Club for the recognition, saying it represented a celebration of environmental stewardship, education, mentorship and investment in the next generation.
“The future belongs to those who are willing to build it and protect it,” he said.
