Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has commenced the installation of industrial solar-powered boreholes in communities across Southern Kaduna to address persistent water scarcity and improve access to potable water.

The initiative, according to a statement by Midat Joseph, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the senator, targets communities grappling with inadequate access to clean water, a challenge that has continued to affect public health, livelihoods and education.

The first phase of the project covers Ungwan Bawa, Kitsitsara, Fagen Ruwa, Lisuru Gida, Ungwan Doka, Bogyam Village, Angwan Village, Nimbia in Gidan Waya, Sabon Layi through Angwan Noma, Gigira Square, Model Primary School Takau, the Juma’at Mosque area and the Kauru Divisional Police Headquarters.

The solar-powered boreholes are expected to provide a sustainable and cost-effective water supply without dependence on the public electricity grid or petrol-powered generators.

Speaking on the intervention, Katung said access to clean water remained a fundamental necessity that his representation was committed to addressing through people-oriented projects.

“Our people deserve more than promises; they deserve water that is clean, accessible and sustainable. This is what responsive and responsible leadership looks like,” the senator stated.

He explained that the water project forms part of his broader development agenda, which focuses on delivering impactful interventions in water supply, education, healthcare and rural infrastructure.

The senator further assured residents that subsequent phases of the project would extend to more communities across the eight local government areas that make up Kaduna South Senatorial District.

Meanwhile, residents of the benefiting communities have reportedly expressed excitement and appreciation as installation work progresses.

The intervention is expected to ease the burden of sourcing water for domestic use and improve access to clean water in the benefiting communities.
