PDP Chairmanship candidate, Mr. Edward Auta had met with 8 Local Government Area Chairmen of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Zone 3 on Saturday, 15th June, 2024, in Kafanchan. The meeting was part of a conscious effort to embolden his chances of emerging victorious at the April 2024 party Congress in the Kaduna State.

Accordingly, the visit was to inform them(chairmen) on his intention to contest for the party’s chairmanship in the state and to tell them why he should be supported.

“I’m here to inform you of my intention to contest the Chairmanship of our great party, the PDP, and to give you reasons why I should be supported. In my entire political life, I had never decamped to any party nor worked against the interest or progress of the party. Rather, I have worked assiduously to preserve the integrity of the party and worked so hard to sustain the good name that our present and past leaders have made for the party.

“I know PDP, I know it’s numerous challenges, and by the grace of God, I have the antidote to most of the malaise affecting the party. I believe in the PDP, its ideology, and I’m aware of what it has achieved for Kaduna State and Southern Kaduna in particular. Since I was a child, I have known the pains of Southern Kaduna. I have known Southern Kaduna before and after 1999, and l also know the development of the party brought to the region. PDP created chiefdoms, built bridges, schools, roads, and hospitals in the zone. We don’t have any reason to leave PDP, and APC gave us more reasons to stay in PDP.

“So, PDP is synonymous to development. The past 8 years of Gov. Nasiru el-Rufai was full of turbulence. He gave people more reasons to stay in PDP even when we lost control of power.

“Within 8 years Gov. Nasiru el-Rufai is alleged of stealing N423bn, sacked workers, hiked school fees, jailed dissenting voices, destroyed businesses, etc. A style of governance that was never experienced in the 16 years of PDP. This is why PDP remains the best political party that people can thrive.

“If given the mandate, I will run a proactive opposition to derive the most benefits of democracy to our dear state.

“Meanwhile, internal division among the elites and internal wrangling within the party are responsible for the 2019 and 2023 General elections defeat. These are some of the issues that we will look at when I’m entrusted with the mandate. I’m in the best position to lead this party. I’m contesting not to retire anyone. We will combine the wisdom of the old and the strength of the youth to win elections.

“I’m in this race for real. I’m not disrespectful, l and not arrogant. I’m a courageous man. I’m in this contest because I’m capable,” he said.
