Senator Sunday Marshall Katung(SMK) of the Kaduna South Senatorial District has launched a one hundred million naira (100,000,000) Social Network Intervention Programme(SWIP), christened: Sunday Marshall Katung Social Welfare Intervention Programme (SMK-SWIP) in Kafanchan, yesterday.

The aim of the foundation is for social and economic empowerment of the people of the zone.

According to SMK, who was represented by Rt. Hon. Gideon Lucas Gwani, a former member of the House of Representatives:
“I stand before you today with immense pride and gratitude as we mark a significant milestone in our collective journey towards social and economic empowerment with a dedicated fund of *N100,000.000.00,” he said.

He went further to say, “today’s ceremony is a testament to our commitment to the welfare and prosperity of our people, and I am deeply honored to launch the pilot scheme of the SMK Social Welfare Intervention Programme (SMK-SWIP).

“As we are all acutely aware, the current economic climate in our beloved country has brought unprecedented challenges to many of our citizens. The hardship faced by families and individuals across Nigeria, and particularly within our Kaduna South Senatorial District, calls for decisive and compassionate action. It is in response to this urgent need that we have initiated this programme, designed to provide immediate relief and sustained support to our most vulnerable constituents.

“The SMK Social Welfare Intervention Programme (SMK-SWIP) is not just a temporary measure; it is a foundational effort aimed at alleviating financial stress and promoting economic stability within our communities. Today, we are beginning with 400 beneficiaries, each carefully selected across the 87 political wards within our senatorial district. This pilot scheme will see 20 beneficiaries from each local government receive 100,000 Naira and 30 beneficiaries from each local government receive 50,000 Naira. This distribution ensures a wide reach, touching lives, and providing necessary support where it is needed most.

“This initiative is a reflection of our collective resolve to uplift the underprivileged and to foster an environment where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive. The funds provided today are not merely financial aid; they are investments in the potential and future of our people. Whether it helps to start a small business, pay for education, or meet essential household needs, we hope these funds will bring immediate relief and set the stage for long-term self-sufficiency.

“Furthermore, I want to assure you all that this programme is designed with sustainability in mind through a composition of a board.

“Today’s ceremony marks just the beginning. Throughout my first tenure, we will continue to expand and enhance this initiative, adapting to the evolving needs of our community and ensuring that the benefits of this programme are felt far and wide.

“To our beneficiaries, I urge you to utilize these funds wisely and effectively. Let this support be a stepping stone to greater achievements and an improved quality of life. Your success is our success, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Board and everyone who has contributed to making this programme a reality. Your dedication and hard work are truly commendable. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient Kaduna South Senatorial District.

“In closing, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity and our ability to support one another in times of need. Let us continue to work together, uplift each other, and create a future where every citizen can live with dignity and hope.”
