Below is the full of Sen. Sunday Marshal Katung independence messageĀ
As Nigeria marks her 63rd Independence Day celebration, I join other citizens to felicitate with the good people of Kaduna South Senatorial District, the people of Kaduna State, and the entire nation.
Nigeria’s chequered history at 63 can’t be said to inspire much hope today, but therein lies its strength. Just like other nations that became great after a turbulent past, I hold on to the conviction that Nigeria will become greater than it currently is.
Our past is strewn with laudable achievements in different sectors that leave no one in doubt that our country has the potential to truly be great. My belief is also anchored on the fact that Nigeria’s challenges aren’t insurmountable, and with determination, good leadership, unity of purpose, and patriotism, we will stand among nations that would inspire others to greatness.
I call on the citizens not to lose hope. Yes, economic and security challenges are there. There is also a discordant tune that has highlighted a chasm in our unity, but while we reminisce on this 63 independence anniversary, let’s tell ourselves that we will all play our part at our different levels to ensure Nigeria succeeds.
I am even more aware of the security challenges in some areas of my senatorial district, especially the return of attacks and kidnappings in some communities, but I assure our people that we will continue to do our best in helping to create a secure environment for us all.
I appeal to the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District to unite irrespective of tribe or religion. This would afford us the extra strength to face our difficulties as a people.
Once again, I felicitate with Nigerians hoping that our today would be greater than our yesterday.
Thank you.
Senator Sunday Marshall Katung,
Kaduna South Senatorial District.
