Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday, received the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds, United Kingdom, Cllr. Abigail Marshall Katung, and her husband, Senator Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung, during their working visit to Yenagoa.
Speaking while hosting the couple at the Government House, Governor Diri commended Mrs. Katung for her steadfast dedication to public service, describing her election as the 130th Lord Mayor of Leeds as a source of pride for Nigeria.
The Bayelsa Governor noted that Mrs. Katung’s emergence as the first black African woman to hold the position in the UK was not only historic but also an inspiration to women and young people across the continent.
“You are a woman of value, and a woman who has made Nigeria proud in faraway United Kingdom. We are proud of you,” Diri said.
During the visit, Cllr. Katung and Senator Katung also joined the governor and members of his cabinet to receive officials of the National Sports Commission at the council chambers of the Bayelsa State Government House.
