Troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have recorded another significant operational success with the rescue of six kidnapped victims in the Kajuru/Kujama general area of Kaduna State.
The successful rescue was carried out on 5 January 2026 during a series of coordinated, intelligence-driven operations conducted across multiple axes in Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, extending to border communities around Kauru LGA.
The operations were strategically designed to degrade and restrict the operational freedom of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA), thereby enhancing security across the wider Sector 1 OPFY area of responsibility.
Acting on a distress alert regarding the movement of violent extremists around the Kasso adjoining hills, troops of Sub-Sector 5, who were already engaged in clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, swiftly advanced to the location. Upon contact, the troops engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest.
Exploiting the success of the encounter, the troops conducted a thorough sweep of the area, leading to the safe rescue of six kidnapped victims. The rescued persons were subsequently handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for onward reunification with their families.
The General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, has commended the troops for their professionalism and gallantry. He further charged them to remain on maximum alert and sustain the aggressive operational tempo necessary to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
