The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops have taken full control of the Sambisa Forest, marking a major milestone in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.

According to military authorities, the development followed weeks of coordinated ground offensives and precision aerial strikes, which successfully dislodged terrorist elements that had used the forest as a long-standing operational base. Troops are currently maintaining a strong presence in the area to consolidate gains and prevent any regrouping by fleeing insurgents.

Sambisa Forest, once regarded as a stronghold and symbol of terror activities in the region, had for years served as a hideout for insurgents to plan attacks, train fighters, and carry out propaganda operations. Military sources say the clearance of the forest has effectively dismantled a major operational hub of terrorist groups.

Army spokespersons described the operation as part of a broader strategy aimed at reclaiming all ungoverned spaces and restoring state authority across affected areas. They emphasized that the operation demonstrates the Armed Forces’ resolve to deny terrorists any sanctuary within Nigeria’s borders.

The military further assured that holding operations are ongoing, with troops deployed to secure surrounding communities, protect civilians, and support stabilisation efforts in collaboration with other security agencies.
Security analysts note that while the capture of Sambisa Forest represents a significant tactical success, sustained military pressure, improved intelligence gathering, and effective governance will be required to ensure long-term peace in the region.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to continuing offensive operations until all terrorist threats are neutralised and normalcy is fully restored in the North-East.
