The Senate is set to deliberate on a motion seeking the revival of Nigeria’s textile industry, with particular emphasis on the Kaduna-Kano industrial corridor.
The motion, scheduled for consideration during plenary on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, is sponsored by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung (Kaduna South).
According to the Senate Order Paper, the motion highlights the urgent need to rejuvenate the textile sector, which was once a major employer of labour and contributor to Nigeria’s economy.
The motion enjoys bipartisan support from co-sponsors including Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North), Senator Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha (Kaduna North), Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno North), and Senator Mustapha Khabib (Jigawa South West).
Observers say the debate could pave the way for renewed policy interventions aimed at restoring the fortunes of the textile industry, creating jobs, boosting local production, and strengthening industrial development across the country.
The motion forms part of the Senate’s business for the day during the Third Session of the 10th National Assembly.
