The Senate is set to consider for second reading today a bill sponsored by the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, seeking the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences Teaching Hospital.
The proposed legislation is aimed at providing a teaching hospital for the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), to serve as a centre for clinical training, medical research and quality healthcare delivery. The hospital is also expected to strengthen medical education and improve access to specialised healthcare services for residents of Kaduna State and neighbouring communities.
If passed, the bill will provide the legal framework for the establishment and operation of the teaching hospital, positioning the university to train medical and allied health professionals in line with global standards while boosting healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The second reading marks another significant legislative milestone in Senator Katung’s efforts to expand educational and healthcare opportunities in Southern Kaduna.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, was established in February 2025 following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the conversion of the former Nok University, Kachia, into a federal institution after the privately owned university was forfeited to the Federal Government. The university was created to promote applied science, technology and innovation, with the proposed teaching hospital expected to complement its academic mandate and support the training of future healthcare professionals.
