Seven marginalized communities in Southern Kaduna and one community in Kano State have gained access to clean and sustainable drinking water following the drilling and installation of solar-powered boreholes under the Matthew 25:40 Initiative.
The Academic Dean of St. Albert Institute, Kagoma, William Kaura Abba, disclosed this while announcing the completion of the humanitarian intervention, describing it as another milestone in a friends-supported effort to improve access to potable water in rural communities facing severe water scarcity.
According to Abba, the initiative has brought relief to thousands of residents who previously endured long and difficult journeys in search of unsafe water.
He explained that his passion for providing clean water to underserved communities stems from his personal experience of growing up in a rural village where access to water was a daily struggle.
“Born and bred in the village, I have first-hand experience of what it means to scramble for this important resource. It has always been my resolve that, God helping me, I will do the best I can to bring relief to rural communities hard hit by water scarcity,” he said.
The newly installed solar-powered boreholes are located in Ragada Community in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State; Fadan Attakar and Kadarko communities in Kaura Local Government Area; U/Rimi, Boto, Katul Allahmagani and Chirani communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area; and Gure Community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Abba attributed the success of the intervention to the generosity of friends who have consistently supported his vision of expanding access to clean water in underserved communities.
He also expressed special appreciation to Kathy Bradley for her leadership and continued guidance of the Matthew 25:40 Initiative, noting that her support has been instrumental to the project’s success.
He reaffirmed the initiative’s commitment to extending similar interventions to more rural communities as resources become available, adding that its mission remains inspired by the biblical teaching in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”
Abba congratulated the benefiting communities and expressed optimism that the new boreholes would improve public health, reduce the burden of fetching water, and enhance the quality of life for thousands of rural residents.
