Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has commenced the construction, renovation and full equipping of science laboratory centres in five secondary schools across Southern Kaduna.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening science education and providing students with modern facilities for practical learning in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The first phase of the project covers Government Secondary School (GSS) Ngarshang-Kwoi in Jaba Local Government Area; GSS Sonje in Jema’a; GSS Zankan-Moroa in Kaura; GSS Katari in Kachia; and GSS Kamuru in Zangon Kataf.
While new laboratory centres are being constructed and fully equipped in the first four schools, the existing laboratory at GSS Kamuru is undergoing comprehensive renovation and re-equipping to meet modern standards.
The facilities will include modern scientific apparatus, reagents, chemicals and appropriate safety equipment to enhance practical learning and improve students’ exposure to science.
Senator Katung said the intervention reflects his commitment to investing in education and creating better opportunities for young people across the senatorial district.
“You cannot teach 21st century science with 19th century facilities. If we must produce future doctors, engineers and scientists from Southern Kaduna, we must invest in the foundation today,” he said.
According to him, students should not be limited by inadequate learning facilities but should be given the opportunity to develop their potential and pursue careers in science, technology, medicine and engineering.
Work is reportedly at an advanced stage at the various project sites, with the completed facilities expected to be commissioned soon and made available for immediate use by students.
The projects form part of Senator Katung’s broader interventions aimed at improving education infrastructure and expanding opportunities for young people across Southern Kaduna.
