2027: Jaba/Zango-kataf Federal Constituency, the Pertinent and Moral Question of Zoning

394

By Engr. Shadrach Katung Majison

I have listened to numerous conversations, arguments, and counterarguments for and against the zoning arrangement between Zango Kataf and Jaba LGAs; whether the House of Representatives seat should remain in Jaba or return to Zango Kataf.

In the midst of these debates, I asked myself one simple but profound question: What would Jesus do?

Would He honour a gentleman’s agreement founded on mutual understanding, fairness, and peaceful coexistence, or would He disregard it when it is another person’s turn to benefit?

And if we profess to be Christlike, should our actions not reflect the values He taught us: love, fairness, sacrifice, humility, and consideration for one another?

Are we not our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers?

Politics should be more than a contest for power. It should be an opportunity to demonstrate character, keep our promises, build trust, and preserve relationships for generations yet unborn. No temporary political advantage should be more valuable than the peace, unity, and mutual respect of our people.

The question is not merely who occupies the seat today, but what kind of legacy we are building for tomorrow. When agreements are honoured, trust grows. When fairness is upheld, unity flourishes. And when we consider the interests of others, we lay a stronger foundation for posterity.

I believe that the true test of leadership is not what we demand for ourselves, but what we are willing to respect when it is another person’s turn.

The future will be the judge of our decisions, our convictions, and our conscience.

May we choose fairness over selfishness, understanding over division, and brotherhood over political expediency.

Support Engr. Seth Bakut for fairness and justice.

Until victory always!
