In what party faithful are describing as a defining moment for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, leaders and stakeholders of the party converged at the ASAA Pyramid Hotel on Sunday, July 6, 2025, for an expanded caucus meeting that signaled both a reaffirmation of loyalty and a bold strategic recalibration ahead of the August bye-elections.
The gathering, chaired by Chief Hon. Edward Percy Masha, the State PDP Chairman and also Chairman of the Forum of Northern States PDP Chairmen and the FCT, brought together a wide array of party chieftains, elders, youth leaders, women mobilizers, and other key actors within the PDP fold. Discussions centered on the party’s internal structure, public perception, and electoral readiness.
At a time when political alignments and defections dominate Nigeria’s political landscape, the Kaduna PDP used the occasion to make its stance crystal clear: there will be no defection, no alliance outside the PDP, and no dilution of the party’s identity.
“The Kaduna PDP is here to stay,” declared SenatorAhmed Makarfi. “We are not in talks with any coalition, nor are we entertaining rumours of leaving the PDP. Our commitment to this party is total.”
This sentiment was formally captured in one of the five major resolutions adopted at the meeting, reaffirming the chapter’s “unwavering membership and total commitment to the unity, strength, and progress of the PDP at all levels.”
Another key takeaway from the meeting was Kaduna PDP’s unflinching support for the party’s national leadership, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum. The caucus commended ongoing efforts to convene a credible and transparent National Elective Convention and pledged to align fully with the new leadership that will emerge from that process.
This resolution reflects a growing understanding within the party that internal unity and national coordination are prerequisites for challenging the APC-led government.
While the Kaduna PDP dismissed talks of merging with other parties, it welcomed internal strategic alliances and initiatives — but strictly under the guidance of the PDP’s new leadership. These alliances, the caucus believes, are essential for dislodging the ruling APC at all levels.
With three bye-elections on the horizon in Kaduna State, the expanded caucus resolved to work harmoniously across all levels of the party structure to ensure resounding victories in each of the constituencies.
According to Chief Masha, “Our grassroots machinery is active and our candidates are credible. With unity, we are confident of sweeping the bye-elections and preparing the ground for future general elections.”
The resolutions of the Kaduna PDP’s expanded caucus meeting reflect more than just routine political declarations; they signal a renewed purpose and strategic discipline. In an era of political unpredictability, the PDP in Kaduna is choosing unity over fragmentation, strategy over sentiment, and long-term vision over short-term gain.
