Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has received 317 defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The defectors, drawn from Jere North, Jere South and Iddah wards, were formally received on Monday at a ceremony in Jere, attended by party stakeholders and supporters. The group was led by a former PDP Chairman in Kagarko, Hon. AbdulRahman Jere.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Jere said their decision to join the APC was informed by what he described as the “results-driven leadership” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, inclusion and peace.
He cited key federal projects in Southern Kaduna, including the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, as evidence of progress under the APC, noting that such long-standing demands had only recently been fulfilled.
“We have watched, compared and chosen performance over promises. Senator Katung listens, delivers and stays connected to the people. That is why we are here,” Jere said.
In his remarks, Senator Katung described the defection as a sign of growing confidence in the APC across Southern Kaduna. He urged the new members to integrate fully into party structures at ward and polling unit levels and to mobilise support ahead of future elections.
“You have joined a movement focused on results and development. The task now is to take this message to every community and strengthen the party from the grassroots,” he said.
The senator also assured residents of Kagarko of continued government attention, promising more development projects and broader inclusion in both federal and state initiatives.
The event marks one of the latest waves of political realignment in Kaduna State as parties begin to position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
