Rijo Shekari has officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shortly after rejoining the party.
The declaration took place on Friday across Zangon Kataf and Jaba Local Government Areas, drawing party members, stakeholders, and community supporters. The event signals a renewed political drive ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
Speaking at the gathering, Shekari said his ambition is rooted in a commitment to grassroots development, inclusive representation, and sustainable community impact. He stressed the importance of people-centred leadership and explained that his return to the PDP was driven by a desire to strengthen the party and contribute to its development agenda within the constituency.
Highlighting previous interventions, Shekari noted that he sponsored nine students
studying Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Jos, provided capital support to 240 women for small businesses, and facilitated the drilling of seven boreholes in 2025 through his initiatives, including Kamrum Integrated Farms.
He added that, if elected, his focus would include rural transformation, agro-entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and mentorship programmes aimed at building self-reliant communities across the constituency.
According to Shekari, Zangon Kataf and Jaba possess significant human and natural resources but require responsive and deliberate representation to fully harness their potential. He emphasized that his vision is anchored on inclusiveness, accountability, and sustainable development.
Several speakers at the event also urged political associates and advisers to offer honest and value-driven counsel, noting that integrity and sincerity are critical to effective leadership.
Party members and stakeholders expressed confidence in Shekari’s return to the PDP, describing him as a grassroots-oriented politician with a track record of community impact. They called for unity and collective effort to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
The event concluded with strong support from attendees as Shekari formally declared his candidacy for the House of Representatives seat under the PDP.
