Former House of Representatives member, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Umar Barde, has distanced himself from a call by a group known as the Concerned Gbagyi Youths urging Governor Uba Sani to consider him as a running mate in the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Monday, Barde said the group’s position was its personal opinion and should not be regarded as the collective stance of the Gbagyi people, stressing that no single organisation can speak for the entire ethnic group without broad consultation.
He reaffirmed the Gbagyi community’s support for Governor Uba Sani and the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that such support is based on shared values and confidence in the governor’s leadership, not on political appointments or conditions.
Barde also cautioned against using his name in campaigns that could be interpreted as applying pressure on the governor, noting that the choice of a running mate remains the exclusive responsibility of Governor Uba Sani and the APC leadership.
Expressing confidence in the governor’s judgment and commitment to inclusive governance, the former lawmaker called on political groups and stakeholders to promote unity, civility, and constructive engagement as political activities ahead of 2027 gather momentum.
He reiterated his commitment to the peace, unity, and development of Kaduna State and the Gbagyi Nation.
