The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) into a leading institution for specialised military and civilian education, with plans for major infrastructure upgrades, including Africa’s first Centre for Military Performance Management.

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, made the pledge while receiving the university’s Governing Council at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.

The minister said the government would continue to provide strategic support to strengthen the institution’s capacity to equip personnel with the technical and operational skills needed to address evolving security challenges.

As part of efforts to bridge specialised skills gaps within the security sector, Musa announced that the Ministry of Defence would collaborate with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fully utilise the 30 per cent admission quota reserved for military personnel.

He also encouraged members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff, and civilians to take advantage of the university’s technological and academic programmes as the country seeks to build a highly skilled workforce for the digital age.

A key outcome of the meeting was a commitment by both the ministry and the university’s Governing Council to address critical infrastructure needs on the campus. Among the proposed projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, described as the first of its kind in Africa.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of NAUB, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), CFR, commended the minister’s leadership and strategic vision, saying his contributions had continued to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture.
Buratai also expressed appreciation for the minister’s commitment to the Armed Forces and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence, research, and national service.
