Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has described Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as a brave and competent military officer who served the nation with distinction as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Gowon made the remarks at the launch of a book titled “The Military Iconic Leader of Our Time,” a compendium on the life and military career of General Musa.
According to Gowon, General Musa led the nation’s security forces with credibility and professionalism during his tenure as CDS, adding that Nigerians owe him gratitude for his contributions to national security.
“You led the security forces credibly well when you were the Chief of Defence Staff. We thank you for what you have done for Nigeria,” Gowon said.
Also speaking at the event, former Chief of Defence Staff under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), described Musa as a man of good character and sound leadership qualities.
“When he was appointed as Chief of Defence Staff, I was not surprised because of his pedigree. I wish him a successful tenure as Honourable Minister of Defence,” Agwai stated.
Former Senate President and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, said Musa’s appointment as CDS and later as Minister of Defence was well deserved.
“When he was appointed CDS, he was one of the rare Nigerians fully committed to his job. He was a pure professional. He has done his best for this country and we owe him gratitude. His appointment as Minister of Defence did not come as a surprise. During his screening, he impressed all Nigerians. Everyone agreed he was the right man for the job,” Lawan said.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, also commended Musa’s personality and professionalism.
“For those of us who know him personally, he is a nice man and a thorough professional. We thank him for what he has done for this country,” Otti noted.
The book highlights the leadership journey, military service and strategic contributions of General Musa to Nigeria’s defence architecture.
