The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening border security, improving veterans’ welfare, and reviewing key defence policies.
He gave the assurance on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC) at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
General Musa said Nigeria’s evolving security challenges require continuous review of the National Defence Policy and its implementation framework to ensure they remain effective.
He stressed that border security remains a core pillar of national defence, noting the need to improve surveillance, intelligence gathering, and movement control across Nigeria’s borders to curb transnational crime.
The Minister also assured that the welfare of retired military personnel is being prioritised through improved healthcare access and sustainable post-service benefits.
Earlier, AANDEC President, Rear Admiral Ndidi Patrick Agholor (Rtd), pledged the association’s support for defence policy implementation through research and strategic advisory services, and appealed for government assistance to strengthen its operational capacity.
