Health Professionals for Senator Sunday Marshall Katung (SMK), representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has dismissed as “reckless and mischievous” a ₦10 million challenge allegedly issued by a supporter of a rival aspirant, Engr. Micheal Auta, demanding proof of projects executed by the lawmaker in his immediate local government area.
In a statement signed by Dr. Gad Zanang Ezekiel, Convener of Health Professionals for SMK, the group described the claim as “laughable and ill-informed,” insisting that the senator’s developmental efforts in his communities and across the district are visible and verifiable.
According to the statement, Senator Katung has implemented several initiatives spanning infrastructure, education, healthcare, and empowerment programmes, which have directly impacted constituents in multiple communities.
The group argued that it is misleading to suggest that the senator should concentrate projects in a single local government area, noting that he represents eight LGAs in the Senate and must distribute development equitably.
Highlighting some of the senator’s recent interventions, the statement cited a collaboration with Project C.U.R.E. to provide hospital equipment valued at over ₦8 billion, as well as “Project 365,” a health initiative aimed at eliminating hepatitis B and C by 2030 through mass screening, vaccination, and treatment targeting over 600,000 residents in the district.
The group accused critics of attempting to distort facts for political relevance, stressing that governance should not be reduced to “a social media contest or publicity stunt.”
It urged the public to verify claims through official records and on-the-ground assessments, maintaining that the senator’s performance “speaks for itself.”
The statement called on constituents to disregard what it described as distractions and focus instead on “credible leadership and measurable development.”
