An aspirant for the Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Engr. Seth Bakut, has expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bakut spoke during an ADC town hall meeting held in Zonkwa, headquarters of Zango Kataf Local Government Area, where aspirants presented their manifestoes before party members and delegates.
Speaking after the meeting, the aspirant said his ambition was driven by conviction, grassroots support, and extensive consultations across the constituency.
He noted that the Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency has operated an informal arrangement of rotation between the two local government areas in producing representatives, adding that competence and fairness should guide the choice of the party’s candidate.
According to him, delegates should prioritise credibility, capacity, and electability in deciding who flies the party’s flag in 2027.
Bakut said he remained optimistic about emerging victorious at the primaries, stressing that he had received encouraging support from stakeholders and residents across the constituency.
“I am prepared, and I am confident that by the grace of God, I will win the ticket and go on to represent my people effectively,” he said.
The aspirant said his focus, if elected, would be on quality representation through lawmaking, oversight functions, and constituency development.
He outlined plans for youth empowerment, job creation, and economic development, lamenting what he described as the neglect of young people in the constituency.
“Our population is largely made up of young people, and I feel they have been abandoned. If given the opportunity, we will empower them to go into business and become financially independent,” he stated.
Bakut stressed the need to reduce dependence on civil service employment by encouraging entrepreneurship and private sector participation.
He also raised concerns over insecurity, particularly its effect on farming communities, noting that many residents could no longer safely access their farmlands.
According to him, governance should be measured by the ability of leaders to improve the welfare and security of the people.
While acknowledging efforts by the current administration, he maintained that more needed to be done to address insecurity and improve livelihoods.
Bakut appealed to ADC delegates to support his aspiration, insisting that competence and the ability to win the general election should take precedence over sentiment and political divisions.
“It is not about tribe or personal interest; it is about competence and the person who can win and deliver,” he said.
The aspirant further highlighted his political experience across major parties, including the APC and PDP, saying it had broadened his understanding of voter behaviour and strengthened his political network across party lines.
He added that his grassroots connections and cross-party relationships would be an advantage both during the primaries and the general election if he emerges as the ADC candidate.
