A constituent from Kujama Ward in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Musa Sylvester, has challenged the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Lawal Adamu Usman, popularly known as Mr. LA, to make public his legislative and constituency scorecard since assuming office in 2023.

Sylvester, who described himself as neither a politician nor a member of any political party, said he was a constituent who voted for Senator Usman in the 2023 election and was disappointed with what he described as the senator’s performance in office.

In an open letter addressed to the senator, Sylvester alleged that he had been unable to identify significant interventions or tangible projects facilitated by Senator Usman for constituents in the senatorial district.

He therefore challenged the senator to publish details of his achievements, including projects and interventions facilitated, motions moved, bills introduced or supported, and the composition of his office staff.

“For the sake of transparency and accountability, I challenge you to publish the list of your office staff, both statutory and non-statutory, as well as the few projects and/or interventions that you have facilitated since assuming office,” Sylvester said.

“Let the people see your record. Let them see who you have employed, what projects you have facilitated, which interventions you have attracted, what motions you have moved, what bills you have introduced or supported, and what concrete benefits your representation has brought to the people who elected you.”

The constituent also criticised what he described as the senator’s focus on social media and political engagements, arguing that greater attention should be devoted to legislative responsibilities and constituency representation.

Sylvester further questioned Senator Usman’s political relationship with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i, claiming that the relationship was at odds with the expectations of some constituents who supported Usman during the 2023 election.
He also criticised the senator’s opposition to the administration of Governor Uba Sani and the APC, urging him to publish his own record of performance rather than focusing primarily on political attacks.

“If you believe the administration of Malam Uba Sani or the APC has failed the people, then by all means, make your case. But before spending so much time attacking others, you should first tell your constituents what you have accomplished with the mandate they entrusted to you,” he stated.

Sylvester said constituents were capable of comparing the records of different representatives who had occupied the Kaduna Central senatorial seat.

He urged Senator Usman to use the period leading to the 2027 elections to reconnect with constituents, focus on his legislative responsibilities and facilitate interventions that would have a direct impact on communities across the senatorial district.

“You still have an opportunity to change the narrative. You can use the remaining months to the elections to reconnect with your constituents, return your attention to the legislative responsibilities for which you were elected, and begin to deliver tangible interventions to the communities you represent,” he said.

The constituent maintained that his letter was not intended as a partisan attack but as an expression of concern from a constituent who voted for Senator Usman and expected effective representation.

He concluded by urging the senator to make his legislative and constituency records available to the public, stressing that elected representatives owe accountability to the people who entrusted them with their mandate.
